A Step-By-Step Guide on How Coffee is Prepared: From Bean to Brew

There’s a fascinating aspect to the process of how coffee changes from being a plant to a bunch of beans. Everything revolves around the coffee plant, which has cherries that hold coffee beans inside them and these cherries are either harvested or plucked manually or through using machinery after they have matured fully.

As for the beans, they are extracted post harvesting through two predominant manners. The first one is dry processing where cherries that contain the beans are dried in the sun and later hulled. The second is wet processing which is basically washing, drying and fermenting the beans. Whatever the case maybe, the beans will need to go through the drying process in order to cut moisture content and help retain the beans’ quality as well.

The beans that are dried up are now known as “green coffee” and they can now be roasted in order to enhance their flavor and aroma. The roast level of the beans is very important as whether it is light, medium or dark each level has a define taste which can either be fruity, bold, acidic, or smoky.

Finally, the roasted beans are ground into espresso, drip coffee or French press depending on your choice. The ground coffee is then blended with hot water with the intention of extracting its flavors for that perfect cup of coffee that you love.

It is due to the endless process of roasting and careful brewing that coffee is prepared perfectly, allowing you to enjoy each and every sip.
